Welcome to the official website of Alderney Week which has been created to keep you informed about Alderney’s biggest and most

Welcome to Alderney Week 2008

2-10 August

Only   to Alderney Week 2008!

…. Celebrating 60 years of family fun and frolics since the end of World War II.

This official Alderney Week website has been created to keep you up to date with Alderney’s biggest and most fantastic annual event.

If you are in a party mood, make sure to head for the Channel Island of Alderney for Alderney Week, the island’s biggest annual carnival.

Alderney Week – in a nutshell:
Imagine 8 days of non-stop fun and frolics with events, competitions and entertainment for everybody, whatever their age. Home-grown entertainment at its very best with over 130 events produced, staged and organised by the Alderney Week Team, with the help of many volunteers, musicians, thespians and event organisers - all making sure you and your family, whatever your ages, will have the most marvellous time on this little island in the middle of the English Channel.

Alderney Week’s Cavalcade Day, one of the big highlights, always takes place on the first Monday of August, and always concludes with the dramatic torchlight procession the following Saturday night. But there are many more highlights throughout the week which draw visitors from near and far to this little island on the rock. In fact, the island’s 2,400-strong population almost doubles during that week and you’re strongly advised to book your accommodation well ahead of time.

Alderney Week started well before the last war and, what was initially a village fayre, has since developed into a madcap extended week. Every year since then, the organisers come up with a new theme and new events.

Alderney Week 2008 :  celebrating the 60th post-war anniversary of Alderney Week

2-10 August

The history of Alderney Week is fascinating and in August 2008 we will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of Alderney Week since the end of the War. And, to celebrate 60 magical years of family fun and entertainment, we have chosen a great theme for Alderney Week 2008:

Pure Magic!

This theme will lend itself to numerous interpretations for floats, costumes, events and, of course, the Gala Spectacular. So come on, all you wizards, magicians, fairy godmothers and even elves, and bring the magic of song, dance and films to make 2008 the most sparkling Alderney Week ever.

Meanwhile, the Alderney Week Team is busy working on the programme and we’ll keep you posted on this website.

This will be a big celebration, but to pull it off with all the plans and ideas we have, we’ll need a lot more volunteers. Please get in touch with us if you want to be involved as a hands-on volunteer.

The theme for Alderney Week 2007  was  Hollywood comes to Alderney” and the red carpets were rolled out to welcome Hollywood’s most glamorous screen goddess, Marilyn Monroe, who is was  our logo and mascot, thanks to her self-appointed publicist, 8-year old Ian Adamson.

And yes, Hollywood really did come to Alderney -  and you better believe it!

This was bigger and better than you could have dreamed.  We had all the glitz, glamour and stars gathered here on the little planet of Alderney. Los Angeles:    eat your heart out! Alderney was the place to be. We even had an Oscars Awards Ball, and no writers strikes would have stopped the party!

Miss Alderney

Alderney Week simply cannot start without Miss Alderney and her two Maids of Honour. So, who will step into the silver slippers of Miss Alderney 2007 and her two Maids of Honour:

Meet Miss Alderney 2007 was 18-year old Marie-Claire Jean.

Her two Maids of Honour were Charlotte Neill (left) and Kaylee Chadney (right), also both 18 years of age.

This year, Miss Alderney will be elected on Friday 23rd May, in the Island Hall. To qualify, you need to be 17 years of age when Alderney Week starts (2 August), you need to be an island resident and you must be on the island during Alderney Week. Looks and appearance are as important as your outgoing, fun-loving personality. For more information, go to the Miss Alderney page.

And last year’s  Mister Alderney is 18-year old Matt Gaudion who was unanimously elected by a large crowd at the Saturday Night (4 August) Disco Party on the Butes and walked away with an Oscar, a bottle of champagne and a group of pretty girls. What more could a young man wish for???

Who will take the title away from Matt on Friday night 2 August at the Mr. Alderney disco?

A series of photos of all major Alderney Week 2007 events, day-by-day is published here  but you can also buy the DVDs.
