We
received the following comments from Tina Bradley:
We came over to Alderney for Alderney week and what a fantastic week it was. We would like to thank Graham and Phillip for being fabulous host's and to Steve and Gill at Simerock. An excellent week was had by all from podium dancing at the quarry party and great burgers from the Burger Queen to the fantastic torch light parade and firework display. An excellent week well planned.
… and from Thee Jenerators, a Guernsey band who played in Alderney at the Battle of the Bands:
On behalf of Thee Jenerators I’d like to thank all the organizers and people we came into contact with during our short stay this year. We touched down Thursday evening, were picked up by the cheerful taxi-van-man and Zoe in the Disney wagon and taken down to our tents at the camp site. Played the quarry in the early hours of Friday to a fairly responsive crew enjoying the bonfire and music, and although there were a few technical hitches the gig was a laugh. Friday we spent the whole day in the Moorings looked after by the guvnor and his missus, and treated to drinks and food by the organizers of that day. Friday was fantastic – what an atmosphere!
Big shouts out to Taxi-man & Zoe, all at the Moorings, Stratosfear, Gay Army, Sketch, the lighting guy who ferried our gear around on Friday, Dave from VMF, Jake and Chris from Sketch, Boyd from Blooze Crewz and all those who helped make our stay so enjoyable. We’ve been asked to return and I think I speak for the whole band when I say we’d love to… anytime.
Unfortunately we missed Saturday night’s celebrations but I hope everything went to plan. Look forward to next time.

… and from the Merchiston Pipe Band, Edinburgh , who lead the Cavalcade on Monday 7 August: Thank you for all your help and encouragement which you gave to me in planning the MCS Pipeband tour of the Channel Islands. It was due to the encouragement of people such as you that I was able to put together the draft proposal for the tour. There were times when I thought it would not all happen but now I am so glad that it did! The boys all enjoyed the different experiences. They all seemed to have different 'favourite' events, leading the Alderney Cavalcade was definitely the favourite of 1 or 2. Some were disappointed not to be able to visit Braye Beach but there just was not enough time. All were so pleased to receive an encore! I did visiting Alderney again, albeit for such a short time - perhaps I shall be back again one day. You may like to look up the school's website and sample their new DVD with background music by the drum corps. www.merchiston.co.uk With very best wishes and on behalf of the Merchiston Castle School Tour Pipe Band - Thanks! Jane Green
… from Sheila Fisher: We were Alderney week
virgins but not any more! Huge thanks for making our time in Alderney so special that we're already booking for next year. You wore us out, we're
back home for a rest. You make our carnival day in the New Forest seem
very tame and we're impressed by how well behaved everyone is, especially your
teenagers - such polite young things. Grateful to Vicki at Town House for
excellent hospitality & not disturbing us when we were hungover!
We're spreading the Alderney Week word over here so expect a few
… and from Jacky Long, Eastbourne, East Sussex: I came over to Alderney for 3 days from 6th August, so unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the whole of Alderney Week. Looking at the packed programme, I just couldn't believe how many events were organised, and I spent a lot of my 3 days racing around on my bike from one event to another. What an incredible amount of planning and thought and time must go into organising so many things for us all to enjoy.
The number and standard of the floats in the Calvacade is testament to the strength of community on the island - so many people putting in so much effort for the enjoyment of so many others. And hang on, is that a Scottish Pipe band I see!!! I loved the bagpipes. It's not really fair of me to pick a favourite float, but I was very impressed with the Mystery Machine and it's occupants. The little girl dressed as Thelma, sitting next to Scooby Doo, made me laugh out loud. I loved the Harley Davidsons too - very impressive machines.
I have many lovely memories from my few days on Alderney - not least of all watching the Daft Raft Race. It was SO MUCH FUN! How amazing to get over 40 entries! The workmen from the hotel, paddling with spades, were hysterical. The weather was perfect. I stood on the harbour wall, watching the frenetic activity, and I just felt so happy.
I joined Alderney Wildlife Trust's 'Wrecks and Rock Pools' walk (really interesting). I went to the Art Exhibition, and was absorbed by the portraits of some of Alderney's characters.
I came to Alderney by myself, but never once felt alone. I felt some sense of wonderful collective spirit with all the excitement of Alderney Week. Everyone was good humoured and friendly. It was terrific. In short, I had the most marvellous time and wish to thank you so much. It was my birthday on August 7th, and I can't imagine how I could possibly have had a happier one. …and from the Mantle Family
A very belated thanks to the
organisers for a fantastic alderney week this
