Miss Alderney Contest Tradition is important, but sometimes there is a need to break with tradition and move with the times. To ensure the continued popularity and success of the annual Miss Alderney contest, the Alderney Week Team consulted previous and potential Miss Alderney candidates and as a result introduced several important changes to the date and format of the Miss Alderney contest. New Date: Easter Saturday 7 April For many years the Miss Alderney contest has always taken place on the Saturday of the last May Bank Holiday, but whilst most of the young ladies studying off island will be in Alderney for the Easter break, they are unable to commit themselves to be back for the Bank Holiday in May and for this reason we we moved the date forward to Easter Saturday which resulted in more entries than in previous years. New online format makes it easy to enter Traditionally, the format of the Miss Alderney contest involved candidates being interviewed by a panel of judges and then again being interviewed on stage in front of a large public, which some young ladies may have found daunting. Under the new format, all contestants simply complete and submit the “Miss Alderney 2012” Entry Form , which you will be able to download here after 15 February 2012 or receive by post. This form is a simple questionnaire containing a few easy personal and general questions which would normally have been asked by the panel of judges, and has to be submitted to the Alderney Week Team by no later than 30 March 2012, together with a head & shoulders and full length photograph of the candidate. All entries will be considered strictly confidential. The Alderney Week Team will not to reveal the number of contestants nor their identity, other than the ultimate winner. Likewise, the independent panel of judges, not related or connected to the Alderney Week Team, are assured anonymity. However, all contestants are required to attend the Miss Alderney Celebration Disco Party at the Island Hall on 7 April. The winner will be announced and then crowned around 10:00pm by the previous year’s Miss Alderney and then it’s party time at the Island Hall. There will only be one winner The decision not to have runners-up (2nd & 3rd Place) who would then be Miss Alderney’s Maids of Honour, was taken based on the recommendation of previous candidates who felt this was out of date. By the way, neither Miss Jersey or Miss Guernsey have Maids of Honour. However, Miss Alderney 2012 will be able to rely on the full support and assistance of the Alderney Week Team to carry out her duties and Miss Alderney 2011 Bonnie Flewitt was very happy . fantastic prizes With substantial prizes worth some £1,500 Miss Alderney 2012 can look forward to a fabulous year of fun and glamour, an action-packed Alderney Week and a number of public appearances not just during Alderney Week, but throughout the year if she is available to do so. The prizes will be announced in March 2012 when we have secured all sponsors. But, for your information, below are the prizes awarded to Miss Alderney 2011:
